Warring Nations

Do your part to keep the rivalry bitter -- share your reasons for hating the Red Sox and loving the Yankees.

www.absitinvidia.comWhile the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is currently the biggest in sports, this was not always the case—especially in New York, where the Yankees’ crosstown National League foes the Dodgers, Giants, and Mets have traditionally loomed as large as, if not larger, than the Red Sox. But in Boston, no other enemy is as despised as the Yankees, and in recent years New Yorkers have fed off that virulent negative energy from their northern neighbors to turn Yankee battles with the Red Sox into the baseball equivalent of Ali vs. Frazier, the Beatles vs. the Stones, or Bush vs. Gore. And although the Yankees have traditionally dominated the rivalry—going into the 2005 season, the all-time series record favored New York 1,060-879—the Red Sox's success over the last several years, and the fact that they are the more recent World Champions, weighs heavily on the minds of Yankee Nation.
